EASTERN AFRICA East Africa is home to two of Africa’s most popular safari destinations - Kenya and Tanzania – along with gorilla encounters in the rainforests of Uganda and Rwanda, and the tropical beaches of Zanzibar.

Being on the equator, an East Africa Safari will be driven by the desired experience rather than the seasons.

Beach holiday destinations in Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Mauritius and the Seychelles are generally considered year-round destinations.

Most Kenya safari destinations are at their best between January and the end of March when the climate is mild and dry and game viewing is at its peak.

In January, the heat is definitely on in the plains of the Southern Serengeti where about thousands of wildebeest calves are born each day. Recent rains produce good grazing, the animals feed frenziedly to carry them through to the next stage of the Great Migration. Needless to say, the herds are under constant attack from the Serengeti’s fearsome predators.

Gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda is a year-round activity but if you're hiking the rain-forests, you'll certainly appreciate the drier and cooler months of January and February
